Eldub that get stuck on a word or phrase!
by DwainBowman ineldub that get stuck on a word!.
over the years i have been around a few, that if a "big" or "unusual" word or phrase is used at the assembly or by a co/do, to stress a point.
then eldub "somebody" will use it at every meeting, if they can find a way to squeeze it into a part or commit.. most of them get over it after a few meetings.

Languages, Dialects, Accents
by LoveUniHateExams injust though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.
first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.
red, arrow, break.

Is it ethical to have children?
by joey jojo inthis was a news article recently in an australian newspaper that caught my eye.. the premise was that to have a child is to inflict an extra human being onto the world and also, to inflict the world (with all its problems) onto the child.. there is a lot to say about this but from jw point of view, i have always believed it to be incredibly hypocritical that jw's have children in 'this system'.
all my life at the meeting i heard how little time we have left, how sick the world is, how i was probably going to be persecuted and end up in a jail cell for being a jw.
why would anyone want to become parents in this situation, particularly if they are confident there is only 'a short time left'?.

back in the late '60's / early 70's there was a very high expectation of armageddon coming very soon--like 1975. i got married at 20--in 1968. most of the young dubs around my age were getting married too. most of them had kids within the first few years of getting married. so much for them really believing the hype.
i wonder how many of the current crop of teens / twenties dubs really believe we are in the last days ? i think--none.
armageddon is just wishful thinking of the generation before me--those with 9 toes in the coffin. give it a few years and i wouldnt be surprised if the watchtower--or j-worg or whatever it rebrands itself--quietly drops the whole armageddon thing...just like they are with the blood nonsense.

An elder with only one testicle
by stillin ini happen to be one of very few people who know of this condition that the man has.
he had an accident several years ago with some power equipment.
leviticus 21:20 commands that no man present the bread at the temple with damaged testicles... so?.

Going back to my first marriage..to a born in...after our 3rd kid I offered to have a vasectomy..but she wouldn't even discuss it. As far as she was concerned..birth control was my responsibility..and she was quite content with withdrawal. But no vasectomy.? In case she decided to have more kids. Isn't 3 enough ?
This was the woman who divorced me soon after...and now shuns our oldest disfellowshipped son and has never seen her grandchild. Some women are ideal watchtower material.

I feel like I am going crazy at times ...
by CovertsadJW ingood evening , .
i feel like i am going crazy - it’s so hard not being able to talk to the ones i love about how i really feel - meaning the “ truth “ is a big lie and a big waste of time.
it’s so weird - i can’t talk to my wife , or kids about how i really feel and it’s causing me probalms that i recognize.

$5.5 Million to be transferred to World Wide Work from Assembly Hall fund
by Sour Grapes ina letter was read tonight in our kingdom hall that the money that the circuits in the indianapolis area had in savings to build a new assembly hall will now be transferred to the www to build kingdom halls in lands where they are needed and a new assembly hall for us will not be built.. we had a beautiful assembly hall near downtown indy that was paid for.
it was sold a couple of years ago.
we were promised a new assembly hall to be built in southern ohio near the indiana border but they can kiss that goodbye now.

The Dark-Skinned Early Briton.
by fulltimestudent ini'm sure many others noted in yesterday's news feeds, that scientists deciphering the dna of the skeleton remains of a man thought to have died some 10,000 years ago in the south of england, have presented him as:.
as blue-eyed (now that's quite english) but as dark skinned.
and, that's not very english, to the horror of many.. (link: https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2018/02/ancient-face-cheddar-man-reconstructed-dna-spd/ ).
